Afterpay is a popular buy now, pay later service in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. With Afterpay, the shopper can pay for the goods in four installments. Before approving the payment, Afterpay performs risk checks on the shopper. In the United Kingdom, it is called [Clearpay](/payment-methods/clearpay). ## How it works 1. The shopper selects Afterpay as the payment method. 2. The shopper enters their details. 3. When you make the payment request, you [include additional information about the items that the shopper intends to purchase](/payment-methods/afterpaytouch/api-only#additional-parameters-payments). 4. Your existing integration setup will [handle the redirect](/payment-methods/afterpaytouch/#handle-the-redirect). 5. You [capture the payment](/payment-methods/afterpaytouch/api-only#capture-the-payment). ## Chargebacks Shoppers can initiate chargebacks directly with Afterpay up to 120 days after the payment, cancellation, or expected receipt of goods or services. When Afterpay opens a dispute, you have 13 days to defend or accept the dispute. If you do not respond within 13 days, or if you accept the dispute, the dispute is lost and your account is debited for the chargeback amount. If you defend the dispute, Afterpay has 30 days to make their decision.
